Actor Ben Foster Talks About the Warcraft Movie

Warcraft Movie

After exciting the general public with set pictures of Duncan Jones’ Warcraft Movie, it appears that the much anticipated video game film has entered post production: which will take a lengthy twenty months. While fanboys will not be able to see the product until March 11, 2016, the very talented Ben Foster has given us a brief insight into the film that has been shrouded in mystery.

“The character in Warcraft that I play is named Medivh. He’s a mage, which is essentially a sorcerer. He came up in a time protecting an area, and the way he protected this area was through magic. As peace returned to this land he took a break. He hung up his staff, so to speak, or let his guns get dusty. We meet him as his friends are returning asking for his help in a battle.”

Though it was revealed that the Warcraft movie would follow Durotan and Lothar in an Orcs vs. Humans origin storyline, the studio has yet to reveal whom the actors will be playing. So it was quite shocking that Ben Foster gave away his character name, Medivh, and the sorcerer’s motivation. For those who do not know the lore of Warcraft (like me), Medivh was the last Guardian of Tirisfal, which was ‘an ancient line of protectors bestowed with great power.’

Personally, I have always been a huge fan of Foster and believe that his talent is a truly underrated commodity in Hollywood. But it is even more exciting that he is teaming with one of the best directors of sci-fi: Foster even talks about Duncan Jones’ vision, which he thinks will result in a very unique video game picture.

What’s exciting about Duncan Jones‘ take on this video game is that it shows both sides of the war. It shows both sides of a conflict, which is exciting to me. It’s not just a video game turned into a movie. It’s asking, hopefully, an important question of, where do we limit our compassion for what we consider to be the bad guys?

This sounds like an interesting take on what could be a franchise with a powerful message. And I am sure that fanboys are happy that the Warcraft movie will have very adult themes; but at the same time, they are probably wondering how the CGI will look. And luckily Ben Foster also talks about Industrial Light & Magic’s groundbreaking visual effects.

The way that they’re pushing motion-capture – I just saw some of the test footage – it’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen. It’s performance-capture. It pushes it to the next level. No, (my character’s) not (performance-captured), but there are interactions with a lot of characters that are. There are a lot of different kinds of creatures in this picture that I interact with. It’s going to be one helluva 3D event.

For all who do not know, this fantasy epic boasts an extraordinary cast of Dominic Cooper, Clancy Brown, Daniel Wu, Paula Patton, Rob Kazinsky, Ryan Robbins and Toby Kebbell: and as previously mentioned, its original December 18, 2015 release date was pushed back to March 11, 2016.
