From the last two years the competition between the Apple Inc. and Samsung is increasing and this is not confined to the smart phone category only. Apple also entered the phablet market recently with is dominated by the Samsung till now. Both are competitors in the tablet category and are releasing products to dominate the market countering each other products with more advanced features. Though this is helping users with much more features at competitive prices the fans of the companies are arguing in social network platforms like Facebook, twitter etc. which is not good for healthy competition. The recent releases in the tablet category iPad mini 3 (by Apple Inc.) and Tab S by Samsung are giving stiff competition to each other and let’s compare these two devices.
Price: The price of latest iPad mini basic model is $299 in USA whereas the price of Samsun Tab S is approximately 100$ high than this.
Processor and OS: iPad mini is equipped with advanced 64 bit A7 processor where as the Tab S comes with Exynos 5 octaquad processor. The iPad runs on iOS 8.1 whereas the Samsung Tab is equipped with Android Kitkat 4.4.4 OS and can be easily upgradable to the latest android 5.0 Lollipop OS.
Dimensions and Screen: iPad mini is equipped with 7.9 inch screen with a resolution of 2048*1536 (326 ppi) whereas the Samsung Tab S is slightly bigger in size i.e. 8.4 inch with 1600*2560 resolution (360 ppi). The first one features the Apple IPS screen where as the latter claims better visibility with Super AMOLED display. The first one’s dimensions are 7.87*5.3*0.29 and the latter features 8.37*4.94*0.26.
Camera: Along with the primary camera which is always positioned backwards, the two devices are equipped with cameras on the front side also so that you can enjoy video calls and other features very easily. Apple iPad is fitted with 5MP camera which is capable of recording 1080p videos whereas the tablet from Samsung is equipped with 12 MP cameras with similar recording and photo capturing capabilities. The front cameras can be useful for video calls only; though several options were given for these cameras also. Samsung tablet features 2MP camera whereas the iPad is equipped with 1.2MP camera.
Security: In this category, apple iPad mini is clear winner. Apple Inc. is known for its advanced security features where as the Samsung Tab S uses Android OS which is really prone to threats. A press statement released by a famous internet security analyst said than more than 1/4th of total by store total apps present in the Google Play are risk causing. Creators and android fans are eagerly waiting for the improvement of security features.
Similar features: Both are equipped with wifi and claiming a battery life of up to 10 hours with continuous internet usage. The looks and design are similar and the weight of the two devices is also almost same. Choose whether it is worth to spend $100USD extra on Tab S and decide on your own based on your requirements.
