Denny’s Breakfast and Atari Games?
Now I know what you’re thinking. Atari and Denny’s? Denny’s as in the restaurant chain, right? Yes. Atari and Denny’s have partnered together to not only bring you a quirky, new, Atari-themed menu, but some clever plays on classic Atari games such as Asteroids, Breakout, and Centipede. They are calling it “Greatest Hits Remixed.”
For those who dislike puns, I’d warn about these new titles. Get ready- Asteroids will be called Hasteroids, Breakout will be called Take Out, and Centipede will be Centipup. Accompanying these new titles cute new breakfast-themed graphics. Flying hash browns, syrup shooters, and fried eggs will be featured in these games. Denny’s press release has even given us some insight to the games new stories and themes:
“Hashteroids – You’re aboard the SS Denny’s Condiment Transport ship and the mission is clear: deliver 40 tons of condiments to the 4th planet in sector 7d.
Centipup – Once upon a time, a young boy named Danny came across a bottle of syrup and with just a slight squeeze the bottle’s sticky contents had the power to turn anyone or anything into a fried egg.
Take-out – A wall made entirely of delicious Denny’s breakfast items appears blocking all the take-out orders from their rightful owners. The only way to feed customers is to break down that wall!”
Some of you may be looking to download these now, but I can see how some others may feel hesitant with the reboot games straying away from tradition. Nonetheless, this may be a good thing for Atari. It shows Atari’s interest in staying more digitally relevant, and gives a bit of publicity to the classic company. Atari is seeking to make their popular games more widely accessible on more platforms.
If you’re all-in for this partnership, and can’t wait to play the reboot games, you can play them now via Denny’s “Build Your Own” mobile app for iOS and Android. Enjoy the delicious spin on these classics!
