The last few days have been somewhat centered around the Call of Duty franchise and rumors or speculation about the upcoming title’s name, release date, setting and more. Well, set all speculation aside, we now have official information and things to actually talk about. A short while ago, an Instagram tease revealed that Kevin Spacey would be somehow involved with Call of Duty 2014. Well, he’s more than just involved it seems, he’s going to be a central figure in the upcoming game, which will bear the name Advanced Warfare. The name isn’t exactly original or awe-inspiring, and after having multiple Modern Warfare titles, we were hoping for something more fitting. Perhaps House of Duty: Emmy Warfare would have been more fitting, given that Kevin Spacey is involved. Or perhaps Call of Cards: Political Warfare?
In any case, there’s no doubt that Kevin Spacey’s highly successful political drama “House of Cards” served as some sort of inspiration. We’re seeing similarities between the dictatorial character in the new Call of Duty game and Spacey’s Francis Underwood. I must admit, I’ve lost enthusiasm for Call of Duty titles a long time ago, and I’m skeptical about each new release, a feeling that Call of Duty: Ghosts heavily reinforced. Still, I can’t deny being drawn by the presence of Kevin Spacey, who I’m sure will prove to be one memorable villain.
Moving on from the story that revolves around Spacey’s character (that looks exactly like the actor, by the way) and his lust for power and leadership over the United States, it seems Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will be introducing some new gameplay elements, this time, in the form of combat-enhancing suits, which do allow for some jumping and wall-climbing. This of course has a Crysis/Titanfall feel to it, but if it at least proves to be engaging and somewhat original, it might prove to be a nice addition. Other than that, there isn’t much to say. Visually, the game has evolved, at least where character faces are concerned. Other than that, the trailer does not seem impressive, and poor character models can be observed if you pay careful attention (notice how Kevin Spacey’s character looks from a distance).
In any case, you can take a look at the full trailer below. The trailer was leaked ahead of time, as it was planned for a 4th of May release date. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will be launching on the 4th of November. What platforms are supported exactly is unknown at this time, however, it’s likely that Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will be released for the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4 and PC. So far, the Xbox One and Xbox 360 versions are the only ones officially confirmed, and the trailer obviously serves as a marketing stunt for Microsoft as well.
What do you think about the trailerĀ andĀ Kevin Spacey’s presence in the game? Planning on picking up the upcoming Call of Duty this year?
