While it may not be anywhere near as dominant as the Windows OS, Apple computers are beginning to establish themselves as alternative gaming PCs. With titles like Alice: Madness Returns, Borderlands 2, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and Indie games being released through Humble Bundle, and added support from Steam, Macs are slowly becoming a recognized platform for gaming.
While Apple’s line of computers and laptops may be recognized more for business use and media production, Macs have a surprisingly large amount of available video games at their disposal. Most of them may be “dated” by our standards, but several classics have been available for the platform for several years. Notable titles with Apple support include Halo: Combat Evolved, American McGee’s Alice and the fairly recent sequel Alice: Madness Returns, StarCraft: Brood War and Diablo II: Lords of Destruction. Now that Steam has added categories for Mac and Linux, even more titles have begun showing up, with the inclusion of Hitman: Absolution, Borderlands 2, Portal 2, Civilization V, Team Fortress 2, Bioshock Infinite, and Diablo III.
Leading Mac-platform publisher Aspyr Media revealed today that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 are now available for Mac. Both games can be purchased through Aspyr (via GameAgent), Steam, or other digital retailers. The Steam-hosted versions include full Steamworks support along with Cross Play- buy it for one platform, download it on another- and cross-platform multiplayer.
Along with today’s release of Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3, Aspyr has previously released most of the Call of Duty franchise for the Mac platform, including Call of Duty, Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and Black Ops. All DLC for Black Ops and the Modern Warfare trilogy are also available for Mac.
