The Super Smash Bros Invitational tournament took place yesterday as a big event to showcase the game to fans, and what an event it was. It was streamed on Nintendo’s Twitch TV channel, with many viewers eagerly anticipating its initiation. 16 top players, including Ken, Hungrybox, PewPewU and more took place in this exhibition, in front of tens of enthusiastic Super Smash Bros fans. The event was presented by Gametrailers’ Geoff Keighley, alongside well known Smash community members Prog and D1 performing commentary.

Throughout the event, we got to see a plethora of new characters and stages in Super Smash Bros, with each competitor putting up a great fight. The audience got to vote on fan favorite characters in-between matches, using a flip book that they were all give, however many hilariously voted for Pikachu several times even though he wasn’t being played. Due to fan favorite votes, some of the competitors were given chances to redeem themselves in a separate bracket, with the player Kevin “EG|PPMD” Nanney winning using Fox. The event concluded with an astounding grand finals match between CRS|Hungrybox using Kirby and CT|ZeRo using Zero Suit Samus, the latter of whom took the match and tournament after reaching the sudden death mode.

During Nintendo’s Digital Event earlier in the day, the game’s producer Masahiro Sakurai revealed that you can now play as Mii fighters; virtual avatars of yourself or any created character. These characters are divided into 3 categories: Mii Brawler, Mii Swordfighter and Mii Gunner, similar to Mario, Link and Samus respectively. The 3DS version of Super Smash Bros will be releasing on October 3 2014, with the Wii U version coming sometime in Holiday 2014.
