Current generation holding back Xbox One and PS4 Assassin’s Creed 4

Ubisoft has stated that present day generation platforms are the reason why development on Xbox one and PS4 is being held back. Tony Key, who is the sales and marketing senior vice president for Ubisoft, has explained that currently all publishers are making transitions of their development resources.

He stated a game such as Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, a large number of sales will still be targeting present generation platforms. He added that they would not be capable of making a version for Xbox One and PS4 that was substantially different as it would not be possible to market them as one.

In the present day, he said, designers and developers are keener on creating a game that will run well on all systems. However, as resources are transitioned to the next generation, it is going to be very challenging to do the same. This is because of the fact that the power of the machines is capable of allowing a lot more creativity.

Comments by Key suggest that Watch Dogs in the following year will not be the next generation experience it would have been had present day generation versions not been present on the line-up. With that being said, Ubisoft is still confident that one of the successful long-term franchises will be Watch Dogs.

Key said that is was very heartbreaking to be highly coveted for commence and fail in delivering at launch. However, from a business point of view, it is not a challenging decision to make. Watch Dogs has been designed to become a long term Ubisoft brand. He said the company will not launch it until they know it equals the vision it is meant to achieve. He finished by saying they were playing the longgame. As a company, they were aware of how crucial it is to always get things right.
