A lot of new information has arisen regarding the latest Dark Souls 2 Crown of the Ivory King DLC. This is the last DLC coming to Dark Souls 2, concluding the lost crown trilogy. This time, the DLC takes us to massive snowy mountains, blinding blizzards and icy, deadly monsters.
Each DLC has provided us with different gameplay mechanics depending on the level design. Crown of the Sunken King enabled us to shape the environment itself with magical pillars scattered around the level. Crown of the Old Iron King placed a heavy emphasis on vertical height rather than horizontal. Crown of the Ivory King seems to place a heavy emphasis on the snow impacting gameplay. During snowy blizzards, vision will be obscured, and enemies (which are camouflaged) can ambush you a lot easier. Disorientation seems to be the theme of this DLC, from videos we’ve seen part of the DLC takes place in a maze like castle. The obscured vision will make traversing this DLC even more difficult.
A new addition not seem in Dark Souls 2 which Tanimura introduces are followers. As one plows through the DLC, you can gather followers, AI who help you fight against enemies and bosses. The more followers you have, the easier the fights are.
The DLC is set to release on September 24th, so get the hype train rolling. Bandai Namco says this DLC will be the most difficult yet, with one boss being particularly difficult. Plus, after this boss, there’s a challenge route (akin to the one in Crown of the Sunken King) to take part in, which should be agonizingly difficult.
If players have all three crowns, we’re promised a special power by visiting King Vendrick. As to what this power is, who knows, but it has definitely got me excited.
