Arrowhead is running Helldivers 2’s third Liberty Day today, October 26, and the centerpiece is a free weapon. Log in during the 24-hour celebration and the AR-23L Liberator Legacy rifle lands in your armory when the day ends, provided you have played the game at least once in the past month.

The studio laid out the full program in a PlayStation Blog post that frames the holiday as “Liberty Day 2186,” the in-universe year for an event Super Earth has now marked three times. The announcement pairs the giveaway with a 24-hour decoration window, four returning minigames, and a fresh wave of real-world merchandise.

In the game’s fiction, October 26 marks the founding of Super Earth’s system of Managed Democracy. Arrowhead traces the holiday to the Democratic Council, which the studio says pulled humanity out of “utter undemocratic chaos” and delivered “the first and final draft of the tenets of Managed Democracy.” The official activity list leans into that satire: parades, a synchronized Mandatory Salute, a family pyre, and an Orbital Bombardment of the Moon that the studio sizes at “over 15,000 megatons of ordnance.”

The free rifle and how to claim it

The AR-23L Liberator Legacy continues Arrowhead’s annual Liberty Day gift custom. The studio describes it as “a classic modeled after weapons used in the First Galactic War” that adds “a retro flair to modern loadouts.” The AR-23 designation links it to the game’s Liberator assault rifle line.

The giveaway has two hard boundaries. Rifles are distributed at 23:59 CET on October 26 to “all players who have played since September 26, 2026, 00:00 CET.” That is a one-month lookback, and the only stated condition is having played at least once in that window. Anyone who played after 00:00 CET on September 26 qualifies; anyone who stopped before that date and returns for Liberty Day does not. The distribution is a single fixed moment rather than a claim button, so a player needs to be in the system before the day closes. Arrowhead has not described any path to earn the Legacy after the window passes.

What changed this year

The decoration window is the clearest new addition. Arrowhead says it has “drafted new regulations regarding holiday ship adornments,” and for 24 hours on October 26 every Super Destroyer shows banners, rugs, party supplies, and other holiday props. The change is temporary; the decorations disappear when the celebration ends, and nothing carries over into a player’s permanent ship loadout.

The four community minigames return for the celebration. Minidivers asks players to send emoji stratagem codes in chat to stop waves of enemies. Adopt-a-SEAF hands each player a “blueberry” to care for and send on missions. Oath of Enlistment issues a copy of the enlistment oath, and Raise the Flag is a synchronized salute-and-flag-raising activity. All four require membership in the official Arrowhead Discord server, which leaves solo console players out of that part of the event.

Three ways to take part, only one is free

Beyond the rifle, participation splits into three tiers that mix free in-game content with paid physical goods.

The free tier is the celebration itself: the decorations, the minigames, and the AR-23L Liberator Legacy, plus a downloadable Liberty Day Party Pack with games, decorations, recipes, and printable Helldiver helmets.

The second tier is the Super Merch Store, which gates purchases behind in-game progress. Reach Level 100 and earn the “Hell Commander” title to unlock the Hell Commander Pin for purchase. Complete 75 missions to unlock the Private Teddy Snuggles Plush. Both criteria must be met before February 28, 2027, and the ordering window runs from August 12, 2026 through March 31, 2027 at 11:59pm PT.

The third tier is outright retail. Displate now carries a Helldivers 2 Display Shards collection, a limited set of six metal collectibles, alongside Liberty Day metal posters. FiGGYZ opens pre-orders on November 20 for an individually numbered collector’s box with four pixel-art magnetic figures: Helldiver (Quick Draw), Helldiver (Flagbearer), Hulk, and Devastator.

The free rifle lands in a game that has been updating fast. Last week’s Scope of Authority Premium Warbond added a new set of weapons, and patch 7.2.0 buffed collaboration weapons and reworked the Bile Strain enemy. Arrowhead has not published the Legacy’s stats, so how it compares to the standard AR-23 Liberator is unknown.

Players who have not yet enlisted can join through the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog with an Extra membership, or buy the game outright on the PlayStation Store.
