With support for the PlayStation 4’s pre-loading functionality being introduced with the console’s 1.70 update, it’s been revealed that Bungie’s forthcoming pseudo-MMO first-person shooter Destiny will be among the first titles – in fact the first – to be supported with pre-loading for those who have pre-ordered the game.
Detailed on a PlayStation Store support page, certain pre-ordered titles (including Destiny) will be able to be automatically downloaded and made ready to play for when the respective games officially launch. This convenient feature allows you to have a currently-unreleased game saved to your PlayStation 4’s hard drive, which will then become available to play once said unreleased game actually releases.
“Beginning with Destiny,” the support page reads, “certain pre-ordered titles can be automatically pre-loaded prior to their release. This lets you rest easy knowing that your game will be ready for play the second its release date hits.“
It’s good to note that only designated pre-orderable titles will have pre-load support, meaning that if the title you’re buying states that it has pre-load functionality it will be so. Pre-orderables that aren’t designated to have such support means it won’t be downloaded to your console’s hard drive.
Once you have purchased your supported game, it will then pre-load to your console shortly before the game’s official release; it will, however, not be playable until the game’s actual release date. This means that you will not have early access to said game – you’ll just have the convenience of being able to play it right from the get-go.
You’ll also have to enable automatic downloads for your PlayStation 4, which can be down in the console’s Settings (you’ll first have to update your system to 1.70, though).

Destiny is slated to launched worldwide on Tuesday, September 9 on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. A PC release is being considered, but it won’t be happening at the moment.
