The upcoming Harvest Moon: 3D the Lost Valley that’s set to release in North America and Europe in late October will include free and paid downloadable content. Although the source of this information comes from an unnamed representative of the product at Pax Prime, the interview provides interesting details about Natsume’s decisions and reasons behind some of the game’s implemented features. For starters, players will finally understand why the developers are creating a”minecraft” farm.
To provide some quick reminders to Harvest Moon fans, the main developer of this farming simulation franchise was Marvelous Entertainment; this Japanese game development studio has been localizing and distributing their products in North America through Natsume‘s efforts and other publishing companies. As such, most of Marvelous’s “Bokujō Monogatari” titles (which roughly translates to farm story in English context) have been renamed underneath Natsume’s brand. Despite having this long-term relationship, Natsume is not publishing Marvelous‘s new entry called “Story of Season”, instead XSEED Games has made the announcement for the release this year. Later on at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Natsume announced the upcoming Harvest Moon: 3DS the Lost Valley, which is the first product made from scratch by Natsume’s developers.
With several years and experiences of knowing Marvelous’s games, the Lost Valley is aimed to provide new experiences to Harvest Moon veterans in NA and EU. As such, the Natsume executives nicknamed the product as “Back to Basics” because they wanted to optimize each system: tools, animals, the farm, etc.
When reinventing the farm, they noticed that players always tend to small flat area to crop. To add more excitement, they decided to create a way for farmers to tend to their crops in a vertical manner. Therefore, the Minecraft farming area will contain 16 levels up and 16 floors down; meaning, 32 elevations will be available for players to shape their grounds in any manner and produce vegetables or fruits in any way.
Besides the huge farming difference, future owners should expect these things as well:
- Unlimited space in bag
- Traits within animals: cleanliness, favorite season, etc.
- Tool activation: use tools automatically without searching for them inside backpack
- No tool upgrades
As for the downloadable contents, the representative mentioned that some folks who want to play beyond the game’s ending can through the digital expansions. Additionally, nothing is cut from the game because they understand that people do not want to pay for things, so they made sure to complete the whole package before focusing on the DLCs. In fact, the DLC won’t work until after the game’s release. Unfortunately, they haven’t specified what the contents are until further notice.
