Through-out 2014 publishers have pumped out remaster after remaster after remaster. GTA V, Tomb Raider, Sleeping Dogs, DMC: Devil May Cry and The Last Of Us are just some of the many games from the PS3/Xbox 360 which have been slightly upgraded and ported to the PS4/XONE. While there is nothing wrong with porting over older titles to the latest hardware it would be nice if the publishers ported games which would actually benefit from being remastered.
While we are sure were a few gamers who wanted to play Tomb Raider and Sleeping Dogs on current-gen systems the reality is the ‘definitive’ versions of those games were no better than the originals.
Here are 5 classics which gamers really want, and need, to be on updated and revised for current-gen systems:
Shenmue HD
Shenmue is one of those games which will never stopped being talked about. The fanbase for Shenmue is among the strongest and most passionate fanbases in all of gaming. The father of the quick-time event certainly deserves a remaster on either the PS4 or Xbox One. Whether this remaster includes Shenmue 1 and 2 or just the original I am sure that people will be satisfied with any Shenmue related announcement. This time around publishers will not have to worry about the insanely high development costs.
Final Fantasy VII (no trolling version)
Earlier this month at the Playstation Experience Keynote speech Sony announced that Final Fantasy VII will be heading to the Playstation 4, this announcement obviously pleased fans but then they realised that this is nothing more than a simple port of the primitive looking Playstation 1 title which came out in the 20th century. What fans want is an actual HD remaster of Cloud’s story, not the blocky PS1 title slapped onto the PS4, there is clearly a market for the remaster there are clearly developers who are willing to develop it, so what are we waiting for?
GTA HD Collection
A possible GTA collection of the PS2 trilogy (GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas) is constantly talked about all over the internet. It goes without saying that the PS2 titles did not age well visually but they are still in every gamer’s hearts so a HD collection would definitely be welcomed by gamers. Having the collection run on superior hardware would also improve the overall experience as issues such as pesky loading screens would no longer be an annoyance. If Rockstar ever were to make a GTA HD Collection please, please develop it for the VITA.
Metal Gear Solid HD
The first time many of us were introduced to the Metal Gear Solid franchise was in the late 1990s on the Playstation 1. Metal Gear Solid 1 set the bar for visuals, voice acting and narrative in the PS1 era. The gameplay was exceptional for its time while the two-disc package made players feel as if Metal Gear Solid was more than just a standard Playstation 1 title. A remake or remaster has been rumoured for a while now so hopefully at some point we can have a version of Metal Gear Solid 1 with the visual fidelity of Metal Gear Solid 5.
Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks HD
Out of all the spin-off MK games Shaolin Monks is by far the best one. Unlike traditional MK titles Shaolin Monks swaps the 2D arenas for open areas where swarms of enemies flood the screen. The gameplay was awesome and the story was pretty good too. Shaolin Monks is a perfect candidate for a remaster as the graphics and the loading screens are horrible. There was talk of a possible remaster in late 2013 but it was rumoured that the project fell-through, hopefully someone else can pick up the pieces.
These are just five titles which gamers want to be remastered, there are plenty more games which gamers are dying to see upgraded for the PS4/XONE. Tell us which games you want remastered in the comments.
