Google is currently working on a modular smartphone, or, in other words, a smartphone that is made up of removable, changeable pieces. The project, codenamed Project Ara, seeks to allow users to have more control over their phone’s hardware.

The smartphone will come as a mere skeleton. Users will then have to choose what they want to add to the phone. Of course, necessary things like the display and processor will have to be added, but Google plans on having users be able to add incense burner or radios to their phones as well. The phones will come in different sizes, deepening on how many add-ons you want.

Google’s Project Ara will make needing to constantly buy a new smartphone to keep up with the world no longer a necessary thing. If your phone is running too slowly, no problem. Just slip out the processor and put in a better one. Sure, it will cost money, but it won’t be nearly as expensive as paying $500 for a new phone that will be outdated in six months.

Google has recently released its first developer resources for the smartphone. Hopefully, that means we will get to see it in stores sooner rather than later. As more and more information is released, stay tuned to Gamer Headlines for updates on Google’s Project Ara!
