Halo: Nightfall, the digital live action series included in Halo: The Master Chief Collection, has been officially been confirmed as a prequel to Halo 5: Guardians. This series is produced by Ridley Scott, director of movies such as Alien and Blade Runner. Sergio Mimica-Gezzan, known mainly from Heroes, will be the director. It is separate from the other Halo TV series that Microsoft announced will be produced by Steven Spielberg, meaning we can expect two live action Halo series in the future!
We still do not know the exact detail of the story, but, as of know we do know that Mike Colter will be starring as a “surgically-enhanced” super soldier named Marlowe, who is suspected to be Agent Locke, who we saw briefly in the trailer for Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Marlowe is explained to be a “rising star in a futuristic army who is troubled by aspects of the military industrial complex he inhabits.” It is then further explained that “Approaching combat situations with caution and logic, he inspires loyalty in his fellow Spartans.” From what we know so far, Master Chief will not be in Halo: Nightfall.
Even with the lack of the Master Chief, this series is definitely looking promising. As of now we are expecting that the series itself will be streamed weekly after the release of The Master Chief Collection on November 11th, 2014. Bonnie Ross, head of 343 Industries is still not sure exactly how many episodes there will be, but explained that 5 of them will lead into the timeline of Halo 5: Guardian’s beta.
Ross has also said that Agent Locke will be playing a “Key Role in Halo 5: Guardians,” and that “We’re using Halo: Nightfall to basically tell his backstory and tell his origin story” according to Ross in an interview with Polygon. “You don’t have to watch this, but knowing this will kind of tee you up for all the new things that are going on in Halo 5: Guardians.”
It has also been confirmed that Halo: Nightfall is currently shooting in various locations, including Ireland and Iceland. 343 industries has confirmed that more will be revealed at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, including how the game, Halo 5, and the show will interact, so we can expect more detailed information about the story then.
Ross says “The goal there is to drop you right off at the doorstep of Halo 5: Guardians.”
On top of all of this, within The Master Chief Collection, terminals will be added into Halo 2. These animated stories are being created by Blur Studios, who have worked on the cut scene’s for 2009’s Halo Wars and commercials for Halo 4. A sample of their work can be found below.
It has been said that the terminals found in Halo 2: Anniversary will follow the Arbiter, and will help players to understand exactly what has happened between the events of Halo 4 and Halo 5: Guardians. Blur Studios will also be producing a Prologue and Epilogue for the Master Chief Collection, as teased by the trailer shown at Microsoft’s E3 2014 press conference.
Halo: Nightfall will arrive along with Halo: The Master Chief Collection on November 11th, 2014 exclusively on the Xbox One. Keep it here at Gamer Headlines for more Halo and gaming news!
