Do you want a copy of The Sims 2: Ultimate Collection? Do you not want to pay for it? Well then, good news because this is your lucky day. Up until the 31st of July users of EA’s Origin can download the Sims 2: Ultimate Collection, which includes all the expanded content added to the game, for absolutely free. Once you have accessed or created your Origin account, all that must be done is enter the code I-LOVE-THE-SIMS and a copy of the game is yours. For more information, EA’s guide can be found here. It should be stressed that this must be done by 10AM Pacific Time on the 31st July or else the code will not work. The Sims 2 is ten years old and the Ultimate Collection comes with all eight expansion packs and ten ‘stuff packs’, in other words all you could possibly hope for. Whilst the ‘stuff packs’ contain only minor cosmetic additions, such as clothes and furniture, the expansions contain gameplay altering additions such as pets.
EA are supposedly offering this as compensation for their recent decision to terminate any support for The Sims 2. There will no longer be any official patches or bug fixes from EA for the game, and this is why they are offering The Sims 2 in its entirety for free. Although EA clearly want this to be taken as a gesture of public goodwill, it is perfectly possible they are trying to generate positive PR after they inadvertently revealed that the upcoming title The Sims 4 would have premium memberships. It is not a stretch to presume that EA are trying to cover up their new attitude to DLC with the peace-offering of a previous installment of the series absolutely free. Although to their credit, they have not shied away from reminding their player base that The Sims used to have expansions instead of DLC or Premium Membership systems.
