Today Apple revealed in a press release that the iPhone 6 sales surpassed more than 10 million units just three days after they went on sale September 19th, breaking their previous sales record for the same period. CEO of Apple Tim Cook commented on the milestone:

“Sales for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus exceeded our expectations for the launch weekend, and we couldn’t be happier. We would like to thank all of our customers for making this our best launch ever, shattering all previous sell-through records by a large margin. While our team managed the manufacturing ramp better than ever before, we could have sold many more iPhones with greater supply and we are working hard to fill orders as quickly as possible.”

The phones were available in US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK, and will be hitting other 20 other countries starting September 26th.

The new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus sport a 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch Retina® HD display respectively, and include the Apple A8 chip allowing for 64-bit computing at fantastic speed. They also launch with Apple’s new iOS 8, which is toted as being simpler and faster than the previous iteration.

Apple had previously announced a day after the iPhone 6’s announcement that the number of first day pre-orders for the new iPhone surpassed 4 million units, breaking another record.
