It looks like Journey and The Unfinished Swan are the latest games to have releases for the PS4. Journey’s President and Creative Director Jenova Chan as well as The Unfinished Swan’s Creative Director Ian Dallas confirmed the game’s release in a Sony Playstation blog post. The PS4 hasn’t even reached it’s first year in existence, but already we’re getting some powerhouse games coming to the console!
Journey was launched over two and a half years ago on the PS3. Journey also was a force to be reckoned with. Jenova Chan and thatgamecompany took the world by storm with this artistic masterpiece. They won numerous awards, including Game of the Year and Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction at the D.I.C.E awards. It’s safe to say that like The Last of Us Remastered, Journey had to make an appearance on the PS4 with beautiful art like that. In the blog post, Jenova Chan gives his many thanks for Journey becoming a major success to developers Tricky Pixels for help on the PS4 platform as well as the fans submitting that they wanted to see Journey make an appearance on the PS4.
The Unfinished Swan was released in 2012 and has made an impact on the gaming community. The game featured stylized gameplay as well as an interesting color palette to boot. I’d say more, but then that’d ruin the game for you! The Unfinished Swan took in two BAFTA awards, one for Game Innovation and the other for Game Debut. Quite an honor if you’d ask me. Ian Dallas thanked Armature Studios for bringing the Unfinished Swan to the PS4 and it seems he’s inspired to play it again on the next-gen consoles.
Both of these games made some artistic and unique style choices to the gaming industry. It’s no surprise that we’re going to see a release from them on the PS4. The important thing is the push for more artistic games, like The Last of Us, Journey and The Unfinished Swan. Gaming is going in a direction of style instead of FPS. At least, that’s the direction I see it going.
