Kate Walsh is the leading actress of NBC series “Bad Judge”. These days she has come under fire for her unethical behavour as a judge. After only the first two weeks, so NBC received a number of requests asking for the removal of the series from the TV. Different groups from the social sectors, especially concerning women’s issues, have become furious at the concept behind this series. They are requesting NBC to pull it down as soon as possible.
CEO of NBC, Steve Burke received a letter from the president of the Miami-Dade Chapter of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers. In this letter, it was requested to take “Bad Judge” off the air.
According to this letter, The objective of Miami Dade FAWL is to promote and motivate women’s role in the legal profession. The association has been working with this mission for thirty five years. “Bad Judge” is something which presents the idea otherwise. This show demoralizes women as it highlights that women are unethical, crude and unfit for this profession. This is against the objective of the association so the letter contained a request to seize “Bad Judge” from the screen.
The letter also suggested that this show is will encourage the concepts of those misogynists, who do not think that women are fit to enjoy such high profile position with authority. It will give rise to the views of those people who maintain that women with authority are not able to control their emotions and physical attributes. This is what the association is worried about.
The very first impression of the show also suggests that the it contains some negative aspects regarding women’s character. Things go even worse when the Rebecca Wright holds her position and supports the idea of literal lingeries in the court. We also find her having sex with her colleague on a desk within the premises of the court.
The bumper sticker that she uses is annoying as well. It says “If you are rich, then I am single”. This statement itself talks a lot against women’s character. Rebecca Wright does everything which is never expected from a noble lady. Kate Walsh is under severe criticism these days, but I feel that it is not the actor or actress playing the role, it is the script that should become under fire.
Baker continues by conveying through her letter that out of 112 Justices on the supreme court, only four had been women. The representation of women in Federal Courts is less than 35%. This rate is below 32% when it comes to the District Courts. There are nine such Districts Courts In the United States, where no woman has ever served a judge in the entire history.
After looking at these statistics, we find a number of reasons which justify the demand of the angry viewers and social sector. NBC must think hard at it and soon come to a better solution to the problem which at this stage seems to be the removal of “Bad Judge” from the screens.
