Square Enix and Disney are hosting a contest to be part of a new Kingdom Hearts video collaboration in Los Angeles on September 6th. The video seems like it’s going to consist of a lot of different people doing something with the official Kingdom Key. They’re keeping a lot of it a surprise, but Kingdom Hearts fans everywhere are beginning to speculate. Could be just posing with the Kingdom Key. Could be videos of fans reciting famous Kingdom Hearts quotes. The possibilities are truly endless, but one thing is for sure… This is going to make a couple of Kingdom Hearts fans really happy. Just the sight of a prop Kingdom Key can make KH fans go crazy. Imagine what these lucky winners will say when they’re shooting a video with the official Kingdom Key made by the people who created the thing in the first place!
This contest is part of promotion for the Kingdom Hearts II.5 release which many gamers have been looking forward to. The contest has a lot to do with saying what you’re most looking forward to in the new game and what Kingdom Hearts as a whole has meant to you. This contest is nice in the way that it seems like they are going to pick the biggest Kingdom Hearts fans for the winners which is by far the fairest thing the company can do. Unfortunately though, they are not providing air fare so if you don’t have a way to get up to Los Angeles on September 6th, you might as well not even enter the contest. However, Kingdom Hearts definitely has many fans in the Los Angeles area. It is pretty close to Disneyland after all.
I’m not sure why they announced this contest so close to the filming date but I have a feeling it was a last minute idea by the marketing team. A contest to be with the actual Kingdom Key is something that’ll cause a bit of buzz in the gaming community, especially in the one that constantly asks for more and more Kingdom Hearts games. Marketing ploy or not, it is still a very cool contest idea and I wish more franchises would do things like this.
