Outer Heaven, a group of modders have got the go ahead from Konami themselves to create a remake of the very first Metal Gear title, released back in 1987 on the MSX. Konami have only asked that the end product shouldn’t include copyrighted material in terms of promotional and marketing use. Apart from that, the team are free to explore a ton of options in order to hopefully create a successful fan-remake of one of the most iconic and important titles in gaming history. The group have called out to anyone who who has experience with C++, modeling, level design, and other industry jobs, in which they should contact outerheavendev@gmail.com to express their interest.
No information has yet been revealed as to when the game will be available, but it’s most likely quite a while away considering quite a lot of talent is still required to make this project work. Keep in mind no profits are allowed to be made, so this will be free to download. A selection of images are available, showcasing the development made so far, as follows:

A Fire Trooper, the flamethrower wielding mercenary of Outer Heaven. This is concept art, clearly showing off a lot of detail and thought.

An example of how the modders are working on existing layouts of the original Metal Gear, and then re-engineering them.

The TX-55 Metal Gear, who players fought at the end of the original. In the battle, 2 lasers would attempt to kill you, so it will be interesting to see if this remake poses any further threats.
