Monster Hunter 4G is set to release in Japan on October 11th, and the rest of the world in early 2015. To mark this release, Nintendo is bundling the game with a new limited edition New 3DS XL.

I’m really digging the metallic sheen the console has going on. The minimalistic design of the monster icon on the right also looks great. The bundle is currently priced at 25,600 Yen, which is about £149 if you convert it directly. There hasn’t been any announcement of what the exact price will be in other regions yet. Nor has there been any news on whether this will even be released in Western markets.

Monster Hunter, if you don’t know what it is, is a series about, well, hunting monsters. Emphasis on the game is placed on the large variety of weapons, ranging from Gunlances to Dual Swords. The immense variety in monsters is also it’s major selling point. All monsters have unique move sets, AI, aesthetics, and different loot drops. Kill a certain monster enough, and you’ll be able to craft their complete armour and weapon set, each with unique skills and stats.

With the announcement of the New 3DS XL, our Monster Hunter experience will be vastly improved due to new technology. With the addition of the New 3DS being able to track your head position, the 3D aspect of this game will work brilliantly, especially seeing as Monster Hunter 4 has a lot more emphasis on vertical height, as well as horizontal distance. With the ability to leap into the air at will with certain weapons, and attack monsters from above, doing this in 3D will not only look incredibly cool, but will add to the immersion as well. Fingers crossed for a Western release!
