Mario Kart 8 sales figures have already reached two million global copies according to Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata. This news comes to us straight from yesterday’s Nintendo Annual Meeting of Shareholders, and is a huge sign of success for the struggling Wii U.
Mario Kart 8’s stellar performance has also allowed Wii U adoption to “pick up” according to the executive. However, no new sales stats were revealed for the platform at this time. Still, Iwata did mention a few weeks back that “one game could save the Wii U.” If this early two million global push is any indication, Mario Kart 8 could be the title to do it.
This positive twist of fate also allowed Iwata to be re-elected as the fearless leader of Nintendo. Despite diminishing approval ratings, Mario Kart 8’s strong sales have proven to investors that Satoru can weather the troubling financial storm of the past few years.
