Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

The official website for Metal Gear Online and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has been revamped following the end of The Game Awards 2014 last week, and with it, a synopsis for Hideo Kojima’s open-world stealth title has been posted on the website.

Although it’s only a blurb for The Phantom Pain, Metal Gear fans will notice that Big Boss is holding Cipher, AKA Major Zero, responsible for the destruction Mother Base and, as a result, leaving him in a coma at the end of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes.

Of course, Big Boss is referred to as Snake in the synopsis posted on the website — the name often used for marketing any Big Boss title in the series (also his former code name) — while additional story details reveal that Kazuhira Miller, Boss’ second-in-command, was indeed apprehended by Soviet troops in Afghanistan.

Check out the full details for The Phantom’s Pain story below:

“The Soviet invasion of Afghanistan has brought a new edge to the Cold War, and in 1984, a one-eyed man with a prosthetic arm appears in the country.

“Those who know him call him Snake; the legendary mercenary who was once swept from the stage of history and left in a coma by American private intelligence network Cipher. Snake is accompanied by Ocelot, an old friend who saved him from attack when he finally awoke.

“Now, Snake’s former partner Kazuhira Miller is being held by the Soviet forces in Afghanistan. Snake must undertake a solo mission to rescue Miller and prove to the world that the legendary mercenary is not dead and gone.

“That first step will lead to a path of vengeance against the very Cipher that slaughtered so many of Snake’s men, and to a battle that will embroil the whole world…

“What started in Ground Zeroes… must finish with “V”.”

Five actors — Banjō Ginga (Liquid Snake and Major Zero), Tomokazu Sugita (Kazuhira Miller), Satoshi Mikami (Ocelot), Osamu Saka (Code Talker) and Stefanie Joosten (Quiet) — have already completed recording sessions with Hideo Kojima for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, while Jim Piddock, the voice actor of Major Zero, said his return in the English version of the title will be “Unlikely” due to a “derisory” offer made for him to reprise his role.

Meanwhile, a rumour of a beta for Metal Gear Online also surfaced earlier this week, as Kojima visited Kojima Productions’ LA-based studio and tweeted an image of MGO on the PlayStation 4’s dashboard.

Running on Kojima Productions’ Fox Engine, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is rumoured to launch in Q2 of 2015 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
