If there’s one place you wouldn’t expect to see a screenshot of Metal Gear Solid V, it’s definitely on Russian cable news. Yet in a surprise turn of events, one happened to appear for a few seconds on a recent SophieCo broadcast.
While discussing his heartbreaking experience as an African child soldier, hip-hop artist Emmanuel Jal recounts the harrowing mindset and real-world events he was forced to witness. In direct contact with complete civil war, mister Jal admits that he really thought “the world was ending.” He was literally in the center of the rapid decay of his own nation. As neighbor turned on neighbor, ruthless violence was condoned and even promoted without any hint of reward.
Pretty horrifying stuff, right? Which is why it would make perfect sense for the camera to then pan to the promotional image shown above. After all, nothing displays the true horrors of war like a completely computer animated screenshot. The silliest part is, Metal Gear Solid V doesn’t even take place in modern times; placing the fictional events three decades prior to today. I guess the old adage remains true that “history has a tendency to repeat itself.” Still, we probably didn’t need to see a Metal Gear Solid V screenshot on Russian news to tell us that.
Update: SophieCo has since published a disclaimer regarding its use of the above image, admitting that it does not intend to mislead its audience. Instead, a spokesperson for the program admits that the screenshot is from the Metal Gear Solid V video game. In that sense, it is in no way is it a reflection of the true events related to the interview.
