Apparently 900p wasn’t enough for Microsoft as they demand Blizzard to make Diablo 3 run at 1080p

Blizzard’s John Hight today told Eurogamer that Microsoft have forced Blizzard to make their upcoming port of Diablo 3 run at 1080p. According to John Hight the game was dropped to 900p because

We did have 1080p, but we were finding it challenging to keep our frame-rate. Because Diablo’s so much of an action game, we wanted to have a responsive feel – especially with four players. When you get four witch doctors in a room full of demons, that’s probably the worst case scenario for us because we have effects going off everywhere. We want to make sure that it still feels very glassy, very responsive, and that’s why we dropped resolution down on it,”

On the plus side you probably won’t even notice it.

However after Blizzard showed the game off during E3 Microsoft said that running the game at 900p was “unacceptable” so Microsoft gave them a code update so they can get the game running at 1080p. This news means that owners of Diablo 3 on Xbox One will be able to get the game to run at 1080p after the download the day one patch.

However by forcing Blizzard to update the game from 900p to 1080p this has come at a small cost to the framerate as revealed by Eurogamer. According to them while the PS4 version stays at 60 fps, the Xbox One version occasionally drops to around 50 fps during combat.

To be fair most gamers won’t even notice this but still Microsoft has sacrificed frame rate for a 44% increase in the games resolution. Regardless Microsoft has promised that there will be plenty more 1080p games coming to the Xbox One.

Diablo 3 Ultimate Evil Edition is now available for Xbox 360/One and the PS3/4.
