Microsoft Might Bring Xbox 360 Emulation To Xbox One After Considerations

by GH Staff

If backwards compatibility is something you really care about for Xbox One, then hope may be on the horizon. Microsoft has confirmed that they are considering a possibility of running Xbox 360 titles on the One. At the Microsoft Build developer conference, partner development lead Frank Savage answered a question regarding whether Xbox 360 emulation will be coming to Xbox One. Savage replied: “There are, but we’re not done thinking them through yet, unfortunately. It turns out to be hard to emulate the PowerPC stuff on the X86 stuff. So there’s nothing to announce, but I would love to see it myself.”

This statement doesn’t confirm anything concrete, but it does show visible interest in the addition of 360 emulation to the One. Sony has already announced their method of backwards compatibility through the PlayStation Now service, so a similar model by Microsoft might not be far off. The details of this emulation remain unclear; Savage neither confirmed nor denied the ability to use your pre-existing Xbox 360 discs or if the service will require re-purchasing digital versions of 360 games. Whichever the method, it will be a good way for people still buying last gen games to have a reason to play their Xbox Ones while waiting for new titles.
