Amidst growing investor concerns surrounding Microsoft’s relationship with its Xbox brand, company CEO Satya Nadella published an email expressing his unwavering commitment to gaming. In the man’s own words “The single biggest digital life category, measured in both time and money spent, is gaming. We are fortunate to have Xbox to go after this opportunity with unique and bold innovation. ”

This statement comes after speculation that Nadella might sell Xbox to another company following his appointment as CEO of one of the largest corporations in the world. Nokia’s Stephen Elop, who was once in the candidacy for the same position, suggested that he might ditch Xbox if he were to rise to power. Prior to Phil Spencer’s promotion to current head of Xbox, Elop was actually charged with running the gaming outfit for a few weeks.

However, rather than cut off a branch of his company that consistently refuses to profit, Satya Nadella says that Xbox is core to what he calls the Microsoft experience. “In the next few years we will see many more new categories evolve and experiences emerge that span a variety of devices of all screen sizes,” including ones as big as your TV. He also acknowledges the fact that Xbox is one of the most rabid and well-respected sectors of Microsoft’s brand portfolio. There’s no doubt that gaming takes a financial hit on any company, but Satya Nadella remains committed to taking those occasional losses to provide a better Microsoft experience for all users.
