New Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition Video shows details about the more ‘Definitive’ Lara

In the latest Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition video uploaded to the game’s official YouTube channel, Executive Producers Scott Amos shows what exactly makes the new Lara more ‘definitive.’

Trying to achieve a more realistic look, the developers rebuild her head from scratch and included different effects that are only possible on the next-gen consoles, such as Tress FX for her hair and Sub-Surface Scattering for her skin. Another neat feature that adds quite a lot to the aesthetics of the game is the so-called Drip Maps, which allow mud, sweat, rain, blood and water to look more realistic on her skin.

Scott Amos also talked about the game with VG247. In the interview Amos stated that regardless of past events, the game is currently profitable and everyone at Sqaure Enix and at Crystal is looking forward to the future of the new reborn Tomb Raider franchise. He also added that “things have changed at Square with a change of leadership,” and that if things haven’t changed they wouldn’t be given the resources to “pull off a new version for Xbox One and PS4, let alone the stuff we’re doing elsewhere.”

The game will be released for the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 on January 28, 2014. Even though he mentioned that Crystal is working on Tomb Raider not only for next-gen consoles, but “elsewhere” a PC version of Tomb Raider Definitive Edition won’t be released as it was confirmed back in December, 2013 in the game’s official forums.

However, as Scott Amos stated in the newest Lara Croft video, this is only the first attempt of Crystal to build a next-gen Lara, suggesting later titles in the reborn Tomb Raider franchise.
