Nintendo of Europe and America site hint that Mewtwo may become a paid DLC character

by GH Staff

Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS players may be able to get Mewtwo as a paid DLC character

Looks like players who don't buy both versions of Super Smash Bros will be able to buy Mewtwo.

It may not have appeared in Smash since Melee but Mewtwo looks like it raring to go.

As everybody and their (Duckhunt) Dog knows by now, if you register both the 3DS and Wii version of Super Smash Bros. you unlock Mewtwo as a playable character this Spring but the Nintendo of Europe and America websites has revealed that you may be able to buy him as a paid DLC character too.

At the end of the Nintendo of America page, it says in fine print that “Mewtwo DLC may be available for purchase in the future” yet at the end of the Nintendo of Europe page it says that  “The character will be made available to purchase as add-on content in the future” at the time this article is being written.

This news may sound a little odd to anybody who read the IGN email interview where Sakurai stated that “…What I can say now about paid DLC is that we aren’t working on anything at the moment. We’ve put all our efforts into making the actual game. Creating DLC would involve large additional costs and require the involvement of a lot of people.”

In the same interview Sakurai explained why Mewtwo wasn’t originally going to be paid content from the start with  “As for why Mewtwo isn’t paid content from the start, releasing that character is an experiment meant to act as a foothold in content distribution; thus it’s simply meant as part of the service we’re providing to gamers”.

While it is odd that nobody at Nintendo or Sakurai himself has announced this news, if its true then this is great news if you want to play as Mewtwo but don’t want to (or can’t) buy both versions of the game.

So what’s your opinion on this news that Mewtwo may become a paid DLC character eventually? Tell us in the comment section below.
