No Man’s Sky has been creating quite a stir since it was announced at last years VGX award show. The upcoming universe spanning space travel title is due out at the end of the year, but there are rumours that developers Hello Games may be leaving some of their core market out in the cold. For many it seemed an absolute certainty that a game of this magnitude would be released for the PC but as we edge closer to its supposed release date, at the end of this year, there has so far been no announcements past that of the PS4 release.
A game like No Man’s Sky, which follows in the rich tradition of the Elite games, seems to scream out for a PC release. The title is set to be the biggest free roamer ever with players given an entire universe to explore, including its planets. Players will also be interacting online as they discover new areas, pinging the locations back and forth and therefore co-oping on discoveries and map expansion. The game is being marketed as limitless and the capacity for exploration to be bigger than any game before
The developers have been sure to insist that a PC version is possible. There is nothing to stop them from doing it but the consensus from within the team seems to be to concentrate closely on making the console debut for PS4 as good as it can possibly be and then looking at their options. Certainly there is nothing legally blocking them from bringing No Man’s Sky to other consoles or formats. However Hello Games is a small British studio and it seems the team want to keep it that way. The fact that the title may get a staggered release while it makes its way onto other platforms is certainly not a bad thing. If the team intend to focus solely on each project to make the best port possible then all gamers who get to benefit should be happy. PC gamers better just keep their fingers crossed because it looks like No Man’s Sky is not a game any one should have to miss out on.
