Platinum Games Reveals Scalebound, Exclusively For Xbox One

by GH Staff
Game Director Hideki Kamiya was present at Microsoft's E3 2014 media briefing to debut the new Xbox One-exclusive epic from Platinum Games- Scalebound.

Platinum Games is definitely not one for holding anything back in terms of gameplay. With titles such as Vanquish, Bayonetta, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, and the upcoming Wii U-exclusive sequel Bayonetta 2, the studio has a penchant for developing high-octane games that will kick the player in the head without mercy. While Platinum may be working on Bayonetta 2, it was revealed during E3 2014 that the team is working on another console-exclusive title- Scalebound.

Platinum Games Game Director Hideki Kamiya presented a brand new IP for the studio during Microsoft’s E3 2014 media briefing. While gameplay itself wasn’t shown, Kamiya debuted a cinematic, conceptual trailer for Scalebound. As the title of the project suggests, the player wages combat against massive, larger-than-life monsters. The idea of large-scale combat isn’t exactly something new for Platinum Games- Bayonetta veterans may remember that many of the bosses tend to be “screen-filling” and beyond in size. The brief announcement trailer introduces us to a young man who might be our protagonist. Equipped with arrows, a sword and a slick pair of headphones, he establishes himself as both a hunter and tamer (seen while riding on one of the smaller beasts of the trailer) of the supernatural. To the surprise of viewers, our main character apparently possess the ability to give himself organic armor, much like Alex Mercer and Sgt. James Heller of the Prototype series. The trailer finishes with an epic climax, showcasing the impressive scale of many creatures Scalebound has in store for the player.

While Scalebound was not given a release date, it’s debut was presented during the “games for 2015” block of trailers and gameplay footage during Microsoft’s E3 2014 conference. Scalebound marks the 2nd next-gen game currently in-development by Platinum Games. While we may not see Scalebound until 2015, Bayonetta 2 is scheduled to release this year for the Nintendo Wii U console.
