PS4 Dominates US Sales In February Over Xbox One, Wii U Sales Growing

by GH Staff

The latest NPD statistics have been revealed and the PS4 continues to lead the pack in hardware sales over the Xbox One in the US. The PS4 distributed 284,000 units in February whilst the Xbox One sold 258,000 units, a 10% lead for Sony. Comparatively, the $100 difference in price meant that the Xbox One pulls in more revenue, despite less sales overall. A tweet by Nick Parker, a digital media strategic consultant, the US install base for PS4 is now at 2.54 million and the Xbox One is at 2.22 million, which is astounding as it took the PS3 and Xbox 360 14 and 10 months, respectively, to reach that point. Meanwhile, Nintendo hasn’t commented on their hardware sales but we do know that Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze for Wii U sold 130,000 units, and Bravely Default for 3DS sold 200,000 units in its first 3 weeks. Wii U hardware sales have grown up to 25%, but by what number is unknown.

What happens next for the consoles in March is yet to be seen. The race between the Xbox One and PS4 is constantly heating up, with the exclusives rolling out one by one. Today, Titanfall is now available in the Europe as well as the US for Xbox One and PS4, a title which Microsoft are hoping will be their system seller. At the same time, the PS4’s first highly anticipated exclusive is inFAMOUS: Second Son, dropping on March 21 2014, with pre-orders for the PS4 inFAMOUS bundle managing to overtake that of the Xbox One Titanfall bundle. The Wii U’s bigger exclusives such as Zelda or Metroid are still going unannounced, with Super Smash Bros 4 being on everyone’s minds yet still lacking a solid release date. What do you think will be each console’s system seller? Let us know in the comments.
