At the time of posting this, Quake Live will be available to download completely free of charge in just five hours, according to the game’s official page on the Steam website. Sporting a total of 12 game modes, the more recognisable modes making an appearance include Free For All, Duel, Team Deathmatch, Clan Arena, and objective gametypes such as Capture The Flag and Domination. That’s just the tip of the iceberg, there are plenty more modes to get stuck into. There is to be ‘partial controller support’, but most players should find the game more enjoyable through traditional mouse and keyboard.
Quake Live is essentially a modified version of Quake 3 Arena, which was originally released back in 1999, proving to be massively popular among the multiplayer and competitive community. Quake Live has been around for quite a while now, first launching in 2010, attracting a fair amount of users. Its move to Steam should bring in even more players and a larger sense of community. It’s free-to-play, so you can simply download the game and start fragging opponents like its the late 90’s all over again.
