Review – Is the Sony Vaio Fit 15 a good buy?

by GH Staff

Sony has been struggling financially lately, and after multiple cutbacks on personnel, the company’s future seems shaky, at least for the time being. We know it’s not the PS4 causing hiccups, as the console is selling extremely well. The Sony Xperia phone line also seems to be doing good. Perhaps there’s a problem with Sony’s notebook segment? We review the Sony Vaio Fit 15 to find out!

Design

Continuing the tradition of the Vaio family, the Sony Vaio Fit 15 is a solid laptop with a visually appealing design that is perfect for both business and casual users. With weight just a bit over 5lbs and measuring about 14.8 x 10.1 x 0.9 inches, the device is easy to carry around. The stylized choice with intelligent curving further enhances the overall feel of the laptop making it seem even smaller.

Specifications

When it comes to specifications, the Sony Vaio Fit 15 is competing to be one of the most affordable powerful laptops in the Vaio family. Having a 1.8 GHz Intel i5 processor and 8 GB of DDR3 the device is perfect to use with any advanced business, as well as lifestyle software. However, its Intel HD Graphics 4000 processor is not powerful enough to let the laptop run any of the latest games and people may have a tough experience with more advanced graphic software. The 750GB Hybrid HDD is perfect for any multimedia collection.

Display

The multimedia experience provided by the Sony Vaio Fit 15 is further enhanced by the beautiful 15.6 inch HD LED-Backlit display. Running at 1920 x 1080 resolution and being touch enabled, the device lets you further enjoy the possibilities provided with the 64-bit version of Windows 8 that comes with the laptop. A minor setbacks are the viewing angles of the laptop, but compared with other laptops in the same price range, the display offered by the Vaio Fit 15 is perfect for the playback of any multimedia.

Battery Life

A minor setback is the 4400 mAh Li-Ion battery that is featured in the Sony Vaio Fit 15. The laptop, when extensively used is able to run about 2 hours and 30 minutes, which makes it the laptop with one of the worst battery lives in its price range.

Overall

Even though the battery life of the laptop is a bit of a setback, the Sony Vaio Fit 15 is nonetheless a perfect addition in the Vaio series. With a comfortable keyboard as well as vibrant touch-enabled display the laptop lets you enjoy a perfect multimedia experience and as it features a stylized design it is a perfect companion regardless of the occasion.
