Microsoft has been attempting to get a Halo movie made for years; but between budgetary issues and the lack of a ‘humanized’ protagonist, it has been unable to pass the pre-production process. For instance, years ago Halo was supposed to be produced by Peter Jackson and made by Neil Blomkamp, but after several problems with the studio, both left the project to work on District 9.  With that said, Halo fans have something to be excited about; in January it was announced that Xbox Entertainment Studios and Steven Spielberg will produce a Halo TV series: and Phil Spencer promised it will be done “the right way [and] it won’t be filler.”

However, the Halo TV series is not the only project Microsoft is working on; Sci-fi legend Ridley Scott will be executive producing a Halo digital feature. A new press release from Microsoft announced, “343 Industries, Xbox Entertainment Studios and Scott Free Productions are proud to announce a new Halo digital feature project to be released later this year.” Now if you do not know, Ridley Scott is famous for Alien, Blade Runner, Prometheus, and other non Sci-fi classics: but again, he will only be an executive producer. The director of the new Halo digital feature will be Sergio Mimica-Gezzan, who has gotten famous for directing several television shows including Battlestar Galactica, Heroes, and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

It is important to add that Scott and Scott Free TV President David Zucker will also be an executive producer and the producing companies expect to premiere this Halo digital feature by the end of this year. According to The Wrap, the format of this new Halo digital feature will be the same as Machinima’s “Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn.” And at the moment, there is no writer hired for the project, however, the producing companies are looking at Prison Break’s creator, Paul Scheuring, to pen it. Now the only details known of the plot is that this live-action adaptation will be “set in the 26th century and follows a surgically-enhanced super soldier who is not Master Chief.” Besides this, there are very few details about this digital project, but expect to hear more at E3 2014.
