Halo 5: Guardians first look multiplayer gameplay reveal

Earlier this week a rumor released by movie industry rag Production Weekly focused on a feature-length film based on the Halo game franchise went viral. Claiming that the movie is being produced by Ridley Scott, the director of Alien and Blade Runner, the Film & TV production tracking database sparked hope into the hearts of thousands of Halo fans. However, Microsoft quickly managed to respond to Production Weekly’s rumors by stating that they are not working on a new Halo movie.

Back in 2005, Microsoft started a project focused on the development of the movie adaptation of Halo. The promised feature film was going to be produced by Peter Jackson, the director behind The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. However, the project was later delayed to 2006 and end up being scrapped entirely by 2009. Since then fans have been waiting in anticipation for the renewal of the project.

Even though the recent rumor was not solid enough, fans quickly got their hopes up. However, Microsoft managed to quickly respond to the public. In a statement to Eurogamer, a spokesperson for the company said that even though they are trying to reach new audiences with the Halo franchise, a movie is not in the works.

Nevertheless, there is no certainty that the project for the Halo movie won’t be renewed at a later period in time. Moreover, Microsoft has announced back in 2013 that they are working on original Xbox TV programming based on the Halo franchise with  Steven Spielberg on board. There hasn’t been an official launch date for the TV series yet, but with Xbox One already on the market, it shouldn’t take long before the Halo TV project is finally released.
