Rumour: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Includes Co-op Mode?

A new rumour for Hideo Kojima’s highly anticipated Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain suggests that a co-op mode might be included in the title.

Reddit user Solidus_Snake52 found that a Phantom Pain concept video created by Kyle Cooper, who worked on Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, had features overlooked when it was initially released.

The video, which has since been re-uploaded onto YouTube (see below), focuses on what players can access through the iDroid, a communications device used by Big Boss in Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain, including the management of staff at Mother Base, weapons development and selecting a mission.

The “Order” section, however, is where the “Co-op Player” mode is listed in a sub-category alongside two other features: “Helicopter” and “Buddy.”

Of course, the helicopter refers to Big Boss’ ability to call in a chopper for extraction — as evidently seen in last year’s Ground Zeroes — while the Buddy system, which allows player to call a character into battle, was revealed at Tokyo Game Show 2014.

Kojima has previously said that players will be able to visit, infiltrate or trade resources with other people’s Mother Bases in The Phantom Pain.

Publisher Konami announced last year that The Phantom Pain would include Metal Gear Online when it’s released.

Meanwhile, MGO creative director Kotaro Oki revealed new mechanics included in Metal Gear Online and also confirmed that the servers for the multiplayer experience will launch simultaneously with The Phantom Pain’s release.

Donna Burke, the Australian singer-songwriter who’s been involved with the Metal Gear Solid franchise since 2010, has recently talked about her experience working with Hideo Kojima and also the two notable songs she’s done for the series: “Sins of the Father” and “Heavens Divide.”

Running on Kojima Productions’ Fox Engine, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is rumoured to launch in Q2 of 2015 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
