Sims 4 mosaic bug is actually anti-piracy measure

A lot of Sims 4 players reported a certain bug that kept occurring. After your Sim takes a nice long time on the toilet, he stands up and flushes. But those pixels that blur the nudity? They don’t disappear, instead they expand to cover the entire screen. And this doesn’t go away. If this has happened to you, apparently you’re playing a pirated version of Sims 4.

Turns out, this isn’t a bug, but a form of copy protection that makes illegal copies of the game incredibly difficult to play. EA hasn’t confirmed this themselves, and there are some people in the official forums claiming that it’s happening to them on legitimate copies. However, head over to a torrent of Sims 4 and you’ll find it saying in many of the descriptions (in fractured English) “Villain in the WC or bath, mosaic will not disappear”. A user also pirated the game before buying it officially, and reported that this “bug” only happened on the pirated version.

It’s an odd move on EA’s part. If this actually was copy protection, then why not just come out and say it? If they don’t, it will just lead to widespread confusion, leading people to believe that its a bug, which would deter people from actually buying the game. Hell, why not make the copy protection more obvious? Games like Serious Sam 3 provided us with an immortal pink scorpion that followed you around trying to kill you (it’s also insanely fast). At least with this, it’s pretty obvious it isn’t a bug, plus, it’s hilarious.

What do you guys think? If you want to play the game hardcore, avoid letting your Sim engage in anything that brings up these pixels, that way they can’t take over the screen, right? No showers, toilet or bath. See how far you can get like that. Or you could just, you know, buy the game legally.
