Arguments concerning superiority of Sega and Nintendo were a past-time for some who grew up during the late 80’s and 90’s. Now, however, it seems that Nintendo and Sega are thoroughly embracing one another. We’ve seen Nintendo and Sega collaborate in the past with their Mario & Sonic Olympic series, as well as the inclusion of Sonic in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. In a surprise follow-up to the Yoshi’s Island DLC released last year, Sonic: Lost World is sending the blue blur to Hyrule in their latest free DLC.
Players will have the opportunity to send Sonic running and spinning through The Legend of Zelda Zone, which will be a free download available on the Wii U eShop on March 27th, 2014. The Yoshi’s Island DLC presented a side-scrolling perspective to Sonic: Lost World, as well as added an element in which the player would collect eggs. The Legend of Zelda Zone takes this idea and expands it into a sort of mini-adventure for Sonic. The pacing is a bit different from the original Sonic: Lost World content, and Sonic himself even dresses in the green hat and tunic sported by Link in every Zelda installment.
Hyrule field will be more of an open area, but the dungeons are a little more straight-forward in approach. Players will avoid enemies and other dangers while collecting rupees. At the end of the stage, the rupees will convert into freed animals. Players familiar with the main campaign will know that these animals are used to unlock gadgets and stages. Rings are completely absent in exchange for a heart meter reminiscent of Link’s during his adventures in Hyrule. Sonic will not wield a Master sword or Hylian shield, but will use the moves available to him during the main campaign. 3DS owners of Lost World will not have access to this or the Yoshi-themed DLC. This DLC will remain exclusive to Wii U owners only.
