In a recent interview with Famitsu magazine, director of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS Masahiro Sakurai explains the reason why the title lacks Circle Pad Pro support.
Recently it was confirmed that Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS will support the C-Stick being added to the New 3DS, but will not support the Circle Pad Pro add-on for the other 3DS models. Sakurai explains that the reason for this is from a technical level as translated from a user on NeoGAF:
“Supporting the CCP requires the use of some of the CPU’s processing load. From the information received during the development of Kid Icarus: Uprising, this is a quite large load at around 5%. Kid Icarus: Uprising and Smash both use the maximum capability of the device, so we had to abandon the idea of CCP support.
“With the New 3DS, we were able to support the C-Stick as the processing power is increased and it is not a peripheral device.”
This isn’t the first time Sakurai has explained technical limitations as being the reason for the exclusion of a feature in the upcoming title, but it certainly does bring a close to the mystery surrounding the lack of Circle Pad Pro support.
Fans won’t have to wait long to get their hands on the 3DS brawler, as Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS releases this Friday, October 3rd in North America and Europe. For those who want a taste of the action before release, a demo is currently available on the 3DS eShop.
