Valve has announced Operation Lithium Lunacy, a Mann vs. Machine charity event for Team Fortress 2 created by the community group Abyss MvM. Gray Mann’s robots have taken a gruesome approach that only the most talented warriors can handle. Players should reload weapons, prepare explosives, fill up canteens, and stock up on upgrades.
The announcement sets the scene with the hot wind blowing, the snow melting, and the air becoming polluted as the machines close in, and it notes that the robots have only now decided to get serious after disrupting the aftermath of America’s Independence Day. Valve describes the conflict as Gray Mann’s Armageddon, the final war, and the most red-blooded he has ever been.
A Large Mission List Across 28 Maps
Operation Lithium Lunacy features 30 missions spread across 28 maps. The lineup includes 9 intermediate missions, 9 advanced missions, 2 nightmare missions, and 10 expert missions, with the expert tier labeled bone-breakingly hard. Players who complete at least 6 missions earn in-game medals.
Master Missions After Three Years
Abyss MvM has also prepared 3 master difficulty missions, which it describes as super hard and designed for fearless, challenge-seeking players. Abyss MvM says it worked in secret with Gray Mann to create these missions, and they arrive after 3 years of work. A returning master mission from the fall of 2023 joins them, redesigned to match what Abyss MvM calls a new skill level among its contestants.
Worldwide Servers and No Deadline
Event servers are live in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. The event has no deadline, which means players can complete missions and donate at their own pace.
A Charity Event for Ocean Connections
Operation Lithium Lunacy raises money for Ocean Connections, an organization that helps seals. Players can donate whether or not they have taken on the event’s missions. Donors earn three in-game medals through the event’s Tiltify page, and they should have a link to their Steam profile ready before giving. An event website, a Steam group, and a Discord server are available for players who want more information about the event or the charity.
