Test Star Citizen's Anvil Hornet for Free This Week

Cloud Imperium Games, the developer behind the vastly crowd-funded space trading and combat simulator (and soon to be first-person shooter as well) Star Citizen, which has reached and surpassed over $63 million in crowd funding, announced on Friday last week that one of the game’s fighter ships, the Hornet, will be available for all backers to try out and test for free in Star Citizen’s Arena Commander dogfighting module.

For the remainder of this week, until this coming Friday (December 12th) presumably, the Hornet will be available amongst your other flyable ships (if you’ve pledged for any) at no additional cost to you. Currently touted as the go-to short-range fighter within Star Citizen, the Hornet series can deal with a lot of pain whilst also dishing it out as well, manufactured by the fictional in-universe company Anvil Aerospace.

This particular Hornet model is the civilian version of the military-grade Hornet F7A from the Hornet line-up , the Hornet F7A – Trainer (there are five different variants of the same model, each fulfilling a different role in some way). The military version of the Hornet F7A is typically the carrier-based fighter that’s flown off of the Bengal carrier, touted to be one of the most powerful warships in Star Citizen.

In order to try out the Hornet F7A – Trainer, all you have to do is log into Star Citizen itself and head into Arena Commander once the game’s loaded up. From there, you should see “Anvil Hornet F7A – TRAINER” amongst your selection of ships. Just click on it in order to select it for your session of Arena Commander, and then go about your business in either a Drone Sim or Spectrum Match.

Since Star Citizen is still in development, Cloud Imperium Games hints that feedback on the Hornet will be useful.

For the next week, we’re unlocking the Anvil Hornet for all backers to test!” The developer wrote in its official announcement post. “The Hornet is the civilian version of the F7A Hornet flown off of the elite Bengal carrier vanguard of the UEE Navy. It may not be the prettiest ship but it is the go to short range fighter due to Anvils sturdy design and ability to take as much punishment as it can dish out. The Hornet is free to test for all backers, the feedback is always useful.

Whilst the Hornet 7FA – TRAINER will be available via Arena Commander, it won’t show up in your hanger if you don’t already have the little fighter under your belt. This variant of the Hornet will also come with the following armaments:

  • Two Mantis GT-200 chainguns
  • Two Talon Dominator FF Quad missile launchers
  • One C4-160F Horney Ball Turret with
  • Two CF-007 Bulldog Repeaters

We’ll bring you more news on Star Citizen should further information reach our ears.
