As the darkness of the night slowly approaches and the (almost half full) moon becomes clearly visible on the gray skyline, the cries of werewolves and moaning of zombies can be heard in the distance. Inspired, we here at The Gamer Hedlines decided to share some of the most creepy (and a bit terrifying) forgotten gaming tales with you. Have you heard about the Lavender Town syndrome?
Dating back to February 1996, the forgotten tale speaks of suicides and illnesses caused by the Pokemon Red and Green games. Do you remember Lavender Town? If you haven’t played either of the games (you should have!) the town is probably the creepiest and hardest part of the game. Known as the grave site, it was a place of in-game ghost sightings and a designated graveyard for deceased monsters.
However, what you might not know is that the background music for the town was changed for the Europe and United States releases of the game. Do you wonder why? Supposedly, the original music (heard in the video below) was making children ill and even led them to suicide. Although it is said that over 100 suicides among children aged 10-15 were reported and connected with the Pokemon Red and Green games, The Lavender Town Conspiracy has yet to be confirmed. Nonetheless, it lives on to be one of the most famous gaming urban legends to date.
If you want to learn more about the topic, a simple Google search can highlight lots of interesting opinions and speculations about the theory. But is it true? What’s your take on the Pokemon Red story?
