Thanking Indie Developers Day Two: Digital Eel

by GH Staff

For the second day of the on-going event for indie game developers, Gamer Headlines is proud to recognize Digital Eel and their video game called Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space; considered rougelike, this space adventure and starship battle project is the sequel to Strange Adventures in Infinite Space and was first introduced to the public on Microsoft Windows on November 4, 2005. Now, interested players can explore the region in the Milky Way called “the Purple Void” on Steam, Desura, GamerGate, and mobile devices.

Although Weird Worlds has a short conclusion, the creators used a random script to generate new experiences each time the user wants to play the game again; to be more specific, the game description stated that “a new and different (instant space opera) is generated at random; from locations of stars and nebulae to plot-twisting quest events, nothing stays the same”. While exploring new destinations on their starmap, they can also enter black holes to face devastating opponents like the battlestation. In the end, players can pickup skills fast and discover new things.

Besides the brief description, here’s a thank you message from a fan!

“Though the sequel is just the same as the predecessor, I decided to recommend “Weird Worlds” because it inspired me to create my own space odyssey and strategy gameplay. Seeing the aliens and various planets reminded me of my favorite television show called Star Gate, but the game only touched a little of that aspect when collecting specimen and traveling to distant star systems. Regardless, I still spent some good hours playing into this game, during the break between my favorite shows. Therefore, I think the developer has an interesting series and the potential to create more unique titles. If not, I’ll make sure to courteously thank them for inspiring my own project that will hopefully gather attention someday too.  ”
