The Swedish team of developers over at Tarsier Studios have announced their step into next-gen consoles by exclusively releasing their next title on the PlayStation 4. While the development team had promised their next title (aside from Little Big Planet for the PS Vita) to be released in 2005, the funding of the independent launch was not enough to continue production. Hunger, on the other hand, will have ample amount of room to grow and flourish before it’s been released to the public. With optimal funding from Nordic Game Programme, Hunger is guarenteed to see the gaming community through its unique setting and gameplay. The Nordic Game Conference that Hunger was debuted at earlier this year was a cumulative success; as Tarsier Studios was granted over $91,000 USD in order to complete Hunger. In an interview with CEO Ola Holmdahl, the head producer displayed his ecstatic appeasement at the news. Commenting that it was not the sole funding that was the prize; it was the enthusiasm from the conference that favored Hunger‘s development.
“This is not only a huge vote of confidence from the Nordic Game Program expert group, the grant enables us to explore an idea we are deeply passionate about.” Said Ola Holmdahl. “Hunger holds fantastic potential, and our job now is to harness that promise into a great experience.” As Tarsier Studios now holds the tools in order to maintain that promise; we’ll have to wait patiently until more footage of the gameplay and overall content begins to appear. While all we have at the moment is a concept, the official artwork that has depicted a dreary world is already constructing a sense of hopelessness.
Hunger is depicted as following the story of a girl forced into servitude. The nine year old girl is called Six; and is subsequently kidnapped as the story begins, she is snatched away from her ideal freedom and is forced to work in an underwater resort called The Maw. Personally, the game sounded reminiscent of a darker Miyazaki film, but the concept is one that will intrigue a lot of PS4 users into at least giving Hunger a fleeting moment to impress them. Hunger is described by Tarsier Studios as being a “third-person 3D action adventure game with stealth and exploration elements.”
Tarsier Studios has not made an official comment on when Hunger would be coming to the PS4. But we are certain that Hunger is getting an exclusive launch. Sources such as Eurogamer expect that the development team will be more inclined to promise a release date during E3. But even that isn’t certain, so we will have to keep close tabs on the next-gen release as it becomes accessible. Until then, we’d like to hear your input on the release; whether you’re looking forward to it or hold an indifference to Hunger‘s development. Feel free to leave a comment below!
