It has been an agonizing wait with EndNight Games keeping their mouths sealed on their brand new survival horror game titled “The Forest”. We were treated with two trailers over the course of 6 months with them showing small aspects of game play and not much else. Thankfully this period of silence has ended with game studio releasing their third and final trailer showcasing some of the titles more amazing and immersive features. You may be thinking to yourself that this is just another indie developed survival game but it is so much more than just that.
The Forest will be using never before seen features in the survival horror genre as well as advanced versions of some already commonly seen. A few key features include:
- Cannibalistic mutants that hunt for you by night .
- A “Huge” open word.
- Day and Night Cycle along with weather system
- Completely unique and immersive crafting system
- Food sources which can be depleted
- Minimal HUD
- Unique building system
- A trapping system
- The mutants live within the world’s cave systems.
- Mutants have “Families, Fears, Morals, and Beliefs”. The mutants are part of a tribe that have their own customs. Don’t think of them only as feral beings.
- Mutants will react to your actions such as running away in fear of you killing a fellow tribes men and carrying an injured friend back to the caves for safety and as well as mourn the loss of their dead.
- You are a regular human , each mutant poses a threat.
- Mutants will hunt you in packs using foliage and tactics to sneak up on you.
- Mutants will sometimes stalk you before attacking you directly.
- Mutants will sometimes wield melee weapons.
- Predatory animals will serve as a constant threat as well.
- No written dialogue, their is a story but no missions included, it is the players job to put pieces together.
- Destructible environment
This is just the surface of what “The Forest” has to offer with it only being in the alpha stage as of right now. Just from the features and small amounts of game play alone many are calling it the ultimate survival horror game. Not only all of this but one truly exciting option that “The Forest” has to offer is that it will be VR Oculist Rift compatible on day one of its alpha release which will only further increases its immersive horror aspect. Thankfully we don’t have to wait much longer with the release date set on May 22nd with a set price of 15$ which includes all futures updates at no additional charge. It will be released on steam under Early Access as well as a likely PS4 release later this year.
