In an interview with Eurogamer, the co-founder of CD Projekt – the parent of CD Projekt RED – Marcin Iwiński explained the differences between the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One versions of the next installment to The Witcher series, The Wicther 3: Wild Hunt.
Despite the game still being in development (and being delayed until 2015), there is still an amount of console optimization to be had – to get the most out of both the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4. Regardless, CD Projekt are still working hard to ensure The Witcher 3 runs to the best it can on each console, so much so that Iwiński doesn’t really think that there will be that much a difference in the end.
“We are still working on squeezing the juice out of the consoles and Microsoft are supporting us in this respect,” Iwiński told Eurogamer.
“The final effect, whether it’s 720p, 1080p – we had the debate in the studio about it and actually asked our tech guys to explain how it works, and they sent me some complicated graphs that ‘if I have this size of the screen, and I sit one meter or two meters from it, then I might be able to see the difference’.
It’s more of a PR differentiation,” he continued, “which is very important for Sony right now – and they are using it, obviously – than something that is really meaningful to gamers.
We’re definitely working to max out each of the platforms in terms of what we can get, because that’s a crucial element of The Witcher. Will there be big differences? Really I don’t think so. It’s too early to say. If there will be, they will be tiny. It will be more like people talking ‘hey, I have this and you have that and this is better’.“
Iwiński continued on to assure that the developer is committed to not artificially capping the performance of the game just so it’ll run equally on both consoles. Instead, CD Projekt will make sure to reach each console’s full potential for each version of the game.
“No we don’t want to make any artificial things with the game, and both platform holders are supportive in terms of making sure it runs to the full potential,” Iwiński explained. “Again, it’s against our values to dumb anything down for the sake of some business arrangement.“

In early April, our Toe Borconi crunched down on some numbers regarding the scale of The Witcher 3’s map, which will allegedly be a roughly around 52 square miles (which is said to be three times the size of Skyrim’s map of 14.8 square miles).
