CD Projekt Red has detailed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered ahead of its September 29, 2026 release. Owners of any version on Steam can upgrade for free. The biggest PC additions include path tracing support, NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 with Ray Reconstruction, AMD FSR 4 with Frame Generation and Anti-Lag 2, and Intel XeSS 2.0 with Frame Generation and Low Latency.
The update lands alongside CD Projekt’s wider Witcher 3 plans, from free pre-orders for the Switch 2 remaster to the Songs of the Past expansion announced for 2027.
Visual and Rendering Overhaul
The remaster adds an improved shading model, updated textures and models based on The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project, improved grass and foliage lighting, updated Sign visual effects, and new skill visual effects. It also includes native DirectX 12 rendering with multithreading, updated tone mapping, GTAO as a new ambient occlusion option, an updated HDR calibration panel, ray-traced local shadows, updated screen space reflections and shadows, improved motion blur, updated subsurface scattering, new image-based lighting, and reworked bloom.
Gameplay and Interface Changes
The skill system becomes a skill tree where each skill has three ranks, with prerequisite skills instead of set point spending, and skill points reset. Skills are rebalanced and some renamed. A new Reforge option changes equipment appearance without affecting stats, offered only by Yoana and Hattori, with Blood and Wine dyes carrying over. Combat for many non-boss monsters is polished, and Geralt gets refined jumping, new finisher and idle animations, improved climbing and vaulting, a new exploration camera, a dynamic combat camera, and improved target-lock switching.
Interface updates include meditation timelapse, easier tracked quest switching, more map markers, grouped nearby loot, a loot feed, item tooltips, and the HUD Configuration section renamed Interface. Photo Mode gains a redesigned UI, placeable characters, poses, expressions, camera locking, environment presets, aspect ratio control, first-person camera, weather and time control, rule of thirds lines, and props. A new Accessibility section adds the Bard’s Ballad preset for Just the Story difficulty, with options like Vitality Regeneration Boost, Infinite Breath, Unlimited Item and Boat Durability, Ignore Item Weight, Faster Boats, and Toggle Witcher Sense.
PC Hardware, Modding, and Quality of Life
PC players also get Ray-Traced HairWorks, DualSense haptic feedback, updated system requirements, and a note to install the latest graphics drivers. FSR 4 is supported on AMD Radeon RX 7000 Series and newer, otherwise FSR 2 is used. Modding adds Cross Platform Mod Support, an in-game tool powered by mod.io for browsing and installing mods from the main menu, plus engine, UI and other REDkit improvements. Quality of life changes include simplified tutorials, a quick way to disengage from combat, and looting without dismounting Roach.
