The Witcher and The Witcher 2 get huge price-cuts on Steam

CD Projekt Red has severely cut prices for its flagship series, The Witcher. Whether it’s a Valentine’s Day sale, or it’s just a sale preparing gamers for the arrival of The Witcher 3 this summer, the deal is just as good. Both titles have received a massive 80% price cut, meaning the The Witcher: Enhanced Director’s Cut is now a measly $2, while The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition is only $4. For the quality of the games and the amount of content they each offer, this is quite a bargain.

The Witcher series has sold over 6 million copies in total up until this point, which is definitely not bad, considering CD Projekt Red came from fairly modest backgrounds. Still, the numbers should not reflect the quality of the games, quality that is hard to match. The Witcher was a great RPG title, and the sequel managed to improve upon the original and become forever etched in the RPG Hall of Fame. If you need more specific numbers, know that The Witcher 2 currently has a score of 88 from critics on Metacritic, while users rated it for 84. IGN rated the game a 9, calling it “superb”, and so did Gamespot.

If you’ve never tried them out up until now, there’s really no reason for you not to, especially at this price. The sale lasts until the 18th of February, so head on over to Steam and grab your copy. While the first Witcher has relatively outdated graphics by now, the Witcher 2’s engine performs wonderfully, and creates a gorgeous world, even by today’s standards. The combat system might come off as a bit strange at first, but rest assured, once you get used to it, it’s an effective and artistic one. That being said, the beauty of the series lies in the mature and complex story, centered on the Witcher Geralt. The game is based on the dark fantasy novels of short-stories of Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, and presents a world full of intrigue, corruption, varying beliefs, political schemes and altering shades of grey. The villains and secondary characters are quite memorable and like-able, so there’s really no reason why you shouldn’t give the game a chance.

As for the Witcher 3, it’s currently one of the most anticipated games of the year, especially in the RPG genre. It truly looks and feels next-gen, and CD Projekt Red developed an engine that will push the Xbox One and Playstation 4 to its limits. The Witcher 3 will most likely be released sometime during the middle of the summer, and will conclude the epic saga of Geralt of Rivia.
