On the Crystal Dynamics blog, it was announced that a new Tomb Raider novel is going to be released and is now available for pre-order.
This new novel titled “Tomb Raider: The Ten Thousand Immortals” is set to continue the story which was in the most recent Tomb Raider game (2013 reboot). The story picks up straight where the game ends and will explain the events that went on in ‘Yamatai’ and explains how Lara and the crew are coping with the traumatic experiences that they had to face on the island.
In the game it was hard to understand Lara coming to terms when she had to kill for the first time. It was nothing like the old games because in the 2013 reboot Lara wasn’t experienced in the way that we know her. We see her transform from being a young girl studying archaeology to killing anybody in her way in Yamatai. Lara surely didn’t get over her experiences in Yamatai and she just wants to put them behind her.
We can’t forget about Sam since we had to focus on saving her in the game,
“Her modest wish shatters as she’s plunged into a frantic race to save her best friend Sam from a toxic overdose.”
Sam doesn’t seem to be coping very well, but who can blame her? She was tortured and nearly sacrificed to awaken the Sun Queen ‘Himiko’.
That’s all we know in terms of the story for what this new novel will be about, but it’s enough information to not spoil whats coming. This novel will be the answer to a lot of Tomb Raider fans prayers, I know it will be mine. It’s also nice to know we have something to look forward to which continues the story whilst waiting for the next game ‘Tomb Raider: Rise of the Tomb Raider’,
I think it’ll fit nicely in between ‘Tomb Raider’ (2013 reboot) and ‘Rise of the Tomb Raider’ assuming that the story of ‘Rise of the Tomb Raider’ will continue on from the end of the novel. Of course the novel won’t be too important for ‘Rise of the Tomb Raider’ but it would be recommended so that fans know the events that went on in the time gap between both games.
Also to note, the novel will in no way effect the story-line for the games, it’s just a little extra. If anybody can remember, we have had novels in the Tomb Raider series before, for example the novel “The Amulet of Power” was a Tomb Raider novel in which it explains the events of what went on in between the games “Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation” and “Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness”.
Now about the book itself. People are going to be skeptical about this book for the simple fact that it’s a game to book adaptation. I personally don’t think we have anything to worry about. The authors of this novel are very experienced writers and have worked on bestsellers in the past so I think were going to be in for a treat.
